What to do about a woodpecker nesting in the siding of my house?

I live in a condo with my dad and his wife, and lately we have been hearing somewhat of a drilling sound. We suspect it is a woodpecker.
When I went down into the basement you can hear it so clearly but it is somewhat under the house/ on the side.

We have a fear that it will be able to get into the house.

What should we do? We definitely do not want to hurt or kill it in anyway.

Also, if you suspect it could be anything else, please clarify.

Answer:
Here in the North West, we have many speckled wood peckers also known as Flickers. They love nesting in houses. In particular, they like attics and will keep pecking at the vent screens until they tear them off.

They will peck a hole in siding even new siding, and when you cover it up, they will move over and peck a new hole. The will even go through Hardi Plank made of cement & wood fibers.

Get used to it, they here to stay. All you can do is keep chasing them away when you hear them pecking.
